Yucatan Peninsula: The most visited of Mexico vacation travel regions.
The Yucatan Peninsula’s Caribbean coast boasts Cancun (Mexico’s first vacation travel destination), Playa del Carmen, Cozumel (one of the world foremost dive sites) as part of a 100-mile stretch of beaches and offshore coral reefs.
The Mexican peninsula also has numerous archeological sites, notably the remains of three great Mayan cities: Chichen Itza, Uxmal, and the seaside ruins of Tulum. The European-flavored city of Merida is, like much Yucatan, strongly Indian in character.
